Yvette Gonzalez

MJ, Employment and Labor Law, Tulane University Law School, Class of 2023

Hello, my name Yvette Gonzalez. I am a student in the Master of Jurisprudence in Labor and Employment Law at Tulane University Law School. I am Floridian by birth but have resided most of my life in the Northeast. I have a tremendous love for human resources and employment law. I have worked in human resources for the last nine years. Prior to my HR career, I worked as a Travel professional for seven years. I am a three-time graduate from Central Penn College. I graduated with my Associates Degree in Applied Science- Travel and Tourism Operations in 2007. A few years later, I graduated with my Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, and my Human Resources Certificate in 2013. As an HR professional, I enjoy making a difference in people’s lives and helping them thrive in the workforce. I’m currently a benefit and payroll administrator for Ritter Insurance Marketing (Ritter).

I started my HR career as an HR assistant with Ritter. Nine years and several promotions later, I became the Benefit and Payroll administrator for the company. I have many accomplishments throughout the years, but my biggest has been my professional growth. I have had the opportunity throughout the years to contribute to Ritter in various aspects of the HR life cycle which include recruitment, HR planning, vision and culture, onboarding, payroll, benefits, separation, training, retention, and development.

The most important professional decision that I made happened two years ago when I decided to enroll in the MJ-LEL program at Tulane. There were several reasons why I enrolled, but the biggest was that Ritter was expanding and I was assisting with several business acquisition projects where employment law, was a key factor. Some of the projects included collaborations with legal counsel and I knew then that I wanted to continue my education in the employment field to become a subject matter expert. I started my research, and this program was mentioned to me by an HR colleague. My end goal was to increase my knowledge in employment and labor law so that I could add value and shine with my newfound knowledge. I’m currently two years into the program and my professional confidence has skyrocketed. I have made life-long friends and countless professional connections. I have a deeper understanding of employment law and the legal field thanks to the guidance and expertise of the best law professors in the nation!

This is my last semester at Tulane (Yay!) I am beyond excited to complete the program and call myself a Law graduate. I know this Master’s program will offer many opportunities for me and will in turn allow for me to give back to my community as an HR leader and graduate of Tulane University Law School.
