Hi Everyone! My name is Alexis Guy and I am the Associate Director of Human Resources at an association management company called Talley Management Group. I currently reside in Wilmington, DE and have worked in HR for almost 7 years. Prior to my role at Talley, I worked at a student loan company as an HR Manager and held several roles in HR at a real estate company, where I learned the intricacies of HR. Luckily, early in my career at the real estate company and during the pandemic, I had the privilege of expanding my responsibilities due to the rapid growth of the company. Although I started my career in talent acquisition, I recognized that TA was not a long-term choice for me. Within a year of being in HR, I expanded my knowledge to learn payroll, total rewards, reporting/analytics, employee engagement, and employee relations. The employee relations aspect is what brought me to the MJ-LEL program at Tulane.
I graduated from Wilmington University with a bachelors in Human Resources Management in 2017, and I always aspired to pursue a Masters degree. However, I knew that a MBA would not be a good fit for me as I wanted to develop my legal knowledge from an HR perspective. After researching, I found the MJ-LEL program at Tulane and was immediately interested in pursing the degree. Now that I am in my last semester, I have already seen the value that the courses have added to my career. This program has taught me how to approach situations based on facts and applicable laws, so there leaves little room for speculation. I often say I chose HR because I'm "nosey by nature," which is very true, but I also chose this career to help everyone feel as comfortable, safe, and productive as possible at the place that we all call work. Thankfully, the MJ-LEL program has revealed to me that this is only the beginning of a remarkable journey and career in HR.
