I am conducting my research on medical leave of absence, accrual annual and sick leave for federal employees and other benefits of leave for emergency medical issues. What I found out is a federal employee can use 13 days (104 hours) of sick leave for general family care and bereavement each leave year and not have to use FMLA. Now if the employee has previously used any portion of the 13 days (104 hours) sick leave for family care and bereavement in the leave year and now wants to use FMLA we have to subtract from the 12 weeks entitlement. Let’s say the employee has used the 12-week entitlement for a family with a serious health condition he/she cannot use additional 13 days (104 hours) for a family member in the same leave year. Finding out about the 13 days (104 hours) and how it can be combined with FMLA and how it cannot determine on which one is taken first in the leave year. I am very glad I am doing this assignment and I chose this topic. After this capstone, my level of knowledge reference this topic will allow me to speak with confidence and bring to light any misconception or confusion what an employee is entitled.
