Go for it...at any age.

Updated: Jan 30

I have been an HR Professional for many years. I'm an active member of SHRM, and I have earned my SHRM-SCP and my PHR. I completed a graduate certificate in Employment Law at Cornell several years ago, which lead me to my particular niche of HR; compliance. My job responsibilities allow me to sit at the crossroads of Human Resources and Legal. Sometimes I feel like I have a leg in both departments and that is something I truly enjoy.

I never wanted to be a lawyer, but as an HR nerd, I literally crave legal information: case law, statutes, regulations, what the NLRB is thinking today, all of these things. When I heard about the Master of Jurisprudence at Tulane University, I started researching!

I remember telling my mom that I was considering going to Law School, but I was hesitating because I would be turning 50 during the program. Mom laughed and said, "Well, you will turn 50 either way....do you want to turn 50 with a law degree or without one?" She's always been my biggest cheerleader, so I decided to go for it.

Our MJ-LEL program attracts so many great people; younger and older and with very diverse backgrounds. I have also met some non-HR people in my classes. The professors are knowledgeable and kind. They really understand what it means to be an adult learner with a full time job and family commitments.

I would recommend the program to anyone interested in HR Law. And PLEASE, don't ever let your age, keep you from reaching your goals.
