Eye of the Storm

"The eye of a storm is surrounded by a ring of towering storms, high winds, and the most severe weather of a cyclone."

Stormy Amanda Olvera, Employee Labor Relations Specialist working for the Department of Veteran Affairs. Joining the Army at 17 years old prepared me to accept challenges, attention to detail, and persevere no matter the conditions. 20+ years in Human Resources, I have learned to weather the storm with patience, due diligence, strength, and accountability.

My educational journey began in 2007 when my husband deployed to Iraq. I wanted to pursue a Psychology Degree to assist military families dealing with deployments. I watched our families' struggles and I wanted to share how we preserved. I soon realized with my career in Human Resources I could utilize those strengths to assist Veterans. In 2020, I graduated from Grand Canyon University with a B.S. in Applied Management. Yes, it took me 13 years to finish my bachelor's degree.

In 2018, I began my career with the Department of Veterans Affairs, Human Resources. I absolutely love my job. I am able to make a difference in the care of our Veterans behind the scenes.

The decision to attend Tulane Law School, Masters Jurisprudence in Employment Labor Law has put me on a career trajectory. As a student, I learned new skills, found purpose in pursuing my education, and advanced in my career path.

Thank you to all my cohorts this journey has been amazing and I would not have wanted to weather the storm without you.
