A Battle of Wills?

On September 8, 2021, President Joseph Biden indicated “I intend to be the most pro-union President leading the most pro-union administration in American history.” With that edict in mind, the National Labor Relations Board’s General Counsel has issued more than 15 memos ranging from Seeking Full Remedies to Procedures for Seeking Compliance with and Enforcement of Board Orders. During this same time, Starbucks Corporation has experienced the first successful organizing effort within one of their stores, and the subsequent petitions of over 300 more stores. To date, an initial Collective Bargaining Agreement has not been reached for the over 250 stores that have voted to organize. The NLRB has taken the position that Starbucks is violating its employees’ Section 7 rights during this process. Starbucks feels otherwise. History will show which organization is correct.
